The World's Greatest Old Bike Mag.

The cover of this month's Vintage Bike Magazine, showing a piece of true Triumph exotica, the fabled pre-war Bronze Head adorning an early Tiger 100.
There is only two thing wrong with this magazine, firstly, it should be twice as thick and secondly, it should come out twice as often!
Written by men who are passionate about the subject with a lifetime in the industry, it goes to levels that other monthly classic comics fall lamentably short of.

Here's how they describe themselves;
Vintage Bike is written for those interested in British motorcycles in general and the Triumph in particular. The magazine includes how-to-do-it articles, stories by and about owners rebuilding and riding their bikes, and authoritative interviews with people who were there during the colorful history of the industry by such well-known authors as Kevin Cameron, Mick Duckworth, John Healy and many others.  Subscribe now. Articles and resources here on our website include an index of back issues.

Do yourself a favour if the description appeals to you, your life will be richer for subscribing to this magazine.

Triumph Rigid Long Chain Cases

The search is over, if you're tired of having to look hard to find a usable pair of long cases only to get beaten in the last 10 seconds by an outlandish bid, Big D Cycles has come to the rescue.

These fine looking reproductions have just been released onto the market at USD 695 a pair, which is about GBP 450. In the current market that would be about right for a good pair of originals, but these are as perfect as a NOS pair and who knows what they would fetch.

Well worth it I'd of said.

This is the real deal, and they ain't getting any easier to find. Shame it's half a planet away.

JoMo Rep Tiger 100 For Sale !!!!!

Call me old Old Fashioned, but I can't really see what more a bloke wants out of a bike than this here. So much fun ya gotta grin to get it in, you've seen it and heard it running a couple of posts down, and as luck may have it, it's up FOR SALE

If you're in the market for a pre-unit Triumph and have got the readies NOW, then in my humble opinion it's worth pursuing to the end.

Enough of the hard sell already, rather than me retype what's Chris has already written here's the description from The Bay of Doom.

Triumph T100R Special.
Pre-unit tiger 100 engine fitted into a ex WD 1944 3HW Triumph frame. A good flattrack frame giving good ground clearance and a short wheel base. Also a good steering head angle that makes the steering very sharp.
Also notice I angled the engine forwards slightly in new alloy engine plates.
Complete engine rebuild just completed under 100 miles ago, so still running in. Fitted with new standard size liners and 7.5:1 pistons.
Brand new cams and followers fitted. New shells fitted to a standard large journal crankshaft. New rods were also fitted. New ball main bearings fitted. New Morgo oil pump and a new lip type oil seal timing cover conversion.
Also fitted a reconditioned manual BTH magneto.
Twin carb conversion.
The lights are running total loss as there is no dynamo fitted, just using the brake light the battery will last forever on a charge. If you start using the headlight you will only get about 20 mins before blackout.
19" Dunlop rims fitted and shod with new old stock Dunlop and John Bull tyres. 8" piecrust front hub and scalloped front brake.
I built this bike over 2 years using top quality new old stock and hard to find period parts. No repro bits were used it's all genuine tackle. For example genuine Amal racing levers not those cheap and nasty monkey metal imitations hawked around by every autojumble Johnny. Also the extra long genuine Amal advance retard lever. The more you look the more you will see on this bike.
Also the entire primary drive is new. Including a full alloy competition clutch. Chains are all brand new Renolds.
New sealed front wheel bearings fitted.
Built in homage to the 1954 T100RR.
Take a look at this bike on You Tube. The film footage was taken on the first day of completion.

Boneshakin' Benny's Bonnie Blowout

It's a TR6 really, but that didn't sound so good as a header.
Benny has put this ex Phil Piper project up for grabs on the Bay of Doom.
The motor has been recently rebuilt and reported to run strong, sittin' on Sportster forks and 21" shod hubs it's got all the makings of a sweet ride.
Although not a great fan of custom frames, they do offer a blank canvas to allow the creative juices to flow upon and the constraints of standard architecture are removed.

They're Still Out There

Andy phoned up yesterday morning, speaking all quiet and secretive, asking about Nortons, and Dommies in paticular. Said he was working in London and there was a pair sat in a garage where he was working..

Back at Andy's within half a day!

Been in there at least 25 years the bloke reckoned.
They are both 600cc 99s, the standard one is a '56 and showing under 12,000 miles. That's quite believable judging by the overall completeness, and un-messed about with look of it. The nearside footrest is bent right up, looks like somebody came off it, way back when, and then laid it up. Probably got a nice little motor car instead.

You want patina?
The Cafe Racer is a 1959 Model 99 600cc Dominator with an intriguing C stamped after the 99 on the motor. Added bonus of quite a few original John Tickle parts including a Twin Leading Shoe front brake!

Period correct Cafe Racer ?????
They both turn over fine and the '59 has got what can be described as good compression.

I'm not gonna tell you what they cost, 'cos it won't make me feel any better!

Brit Survivor Chop - ****** FOR SALE ******

Built back in '83 this 500 Ajay has spent the last 20 or more years on a pretty big shelf in a house. That's why the timing side outshines the drive side, couldn't get 'round to dusting it ya see.
Motor turns over well and there is a strong spark but otherwise it will need recomissioning before it sees the road again.

Offers in the region of £2,000

Drop a mail to the addy at the top left corner if it floats ya boat and ya wanna buy a slice of character.

..............PASSED BY LIKE HALLEY'S COMET

Well, that's more than likely our lot for this lifetime, the chances of seeing another one for sale in the public arena is slim bordering on nil. A good price for Annie and Reg though, should ease their Christmas worries no end. I chucked a speculative grand at it, but it was always a forlorn hope, never going to go that cheap, although it did flirt around the twelve hundred mark up until the final 30 seconds, then the big players showed their hands.
I can only hope that the new owner will be happy with it, and it gets used probably not in anger on the track maybe, but at least on a running and used motor.

UNOBTANIUM!!!!!!!

This has just appeared on the Bay, 7 day auction.
A 1939 bronze head for a Tiger 100, things don't get much rarer or more desirable than this in the pre-unit world. It's reckoned that less than 300 were produced before the Germans turned up overhead in 1940 and stopped the party early

This is almost definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity to become the proud owner of one of these. Read somewhere on the netscape that one dude has spent the last six years trying to find one and has never even got a sniff of one.

No idea what it will fetch, close to three grand I reckon, which is why this soldier ain't gonna get involved in the bidding war. However if you feel that you're up for the fight it can be found HERE

Bobbed 'bird on the Bay

This has just appeared on the bay, got all the right bits in the right places.
Here's the description as is;

1954 Triumph T6 Thunderbird Bobber or old school Chopper. He has been building this type of bike on and off since the early '80s, usually for himself, then eventually sold on to start a project all over again. He built this one for himself, but due to a slight change in interest (bought a '49 Chevy panel van!) the bike is for sale as a total new build, unused save for a quick road test up and down the yard just to make sure everything is working as it should be. It is currently on SORN, but will have 12 months MOT for the new owner. The reg number is non transferrable.
This is a high quality build as follows: Original rigid frame, forks, yokes, oil tank, engine plates, footrest assembly, brake pedal, battery box, steering damper assembly, larger 8" 1955 front brake, standard Triumph 18" rear wheel, standard gearbox, later cush drive clutch assembly, standard primary drive csings, 24 tooth crank sprocket. Engine spec is big bearing dynamo cases, lightened & balanced polished crank and rods, Spitfire cams, lightened polished timing gears, rebuilt comp magneto with auto advance unit, + 20 barrels, Spitfire pistons, gas flowed 9 stud, 4 plug head with 2 plugs blanked off, mk11 concentric carbs, new main bearings, new big end shells, piston rings, gaskets, seals, carb to inlet rubbers. Gearbox has new bushes, seals, bearings and long T140 kick start arm for easier kickover.

On 30-Aug-12 at 22:36:36 BST, seller added the following information:
New parts used as follows:
fork stanchions bushes seals and holders, steering head bearing assembly, front wheel bearings, front tyre + tube and rim tape, fprk gaitors, wheel spindle and nut, rear tyre + tube and rim tape, rear wheel bearings, rear chain, primary chain, gearbox sprocket, engine gearbox and frame fitting kits, tank badges, tank cap, tank taps, battery, electronic voltage regulator, new cables throughout, new wiring throughout, standard down pipes, slash cut short silencers, single saddle, horn, light of-on swithc, hi-low switch, brake light switch, all rubbers, most nuts and bolts. Most of the new nuts and bolts are stainless steel. lights are butlers.
One-off parts as follows:
headlamp mounting, front mudguard and brace, tail light mounting, brake light switch mounting, rear guard with rib and stays, rear chain guard, speedo mounting bracket, number plate on rear stand, tank mountings. The tank has been altered to 4 bolt base mount and also altered to take this type of badge.
It starts easy, runs well and is pretty potent.
Payment terms are cash on collection within a few days of the auction ending. Ross wont mess you about so please do not mess him about, we are all too busy for tyre kickers just now. This is a serious bike and we need serious bidders/buyers. If you win the auction you pay for the bike, it's that simple. If you want it and want to know more about it or a buy it now price, phone Ross on 07508 757796 and he will tell you what you want to know. I know nothing more than he has told me so no point in e-mailing me. If you're serious and want sensible info, you will spend the money on a phone call.

Be interesting to follow this, check it out here if  ya reckon it could be the bike for you

Great Bike On Offer Over At Pete's Place

Pete over at Eat The Rich has just posted this. Not the prettiest for sure but pretty much everything you need to build a cracking bike. Here's what Pete has to say about it;

'54 uncut rigid frame with original transferable reg, sprung hub, big bearing T'bird 650 with 9 stud Bonneville splayed head, Borrani 19" up front, strangely laced offset rear, engine turns nice with plenty of compo, no spark as yet but will clean points tomorrow. I don't want to sell it, i don't want to sell anything, but its better than a job so a gnats* cock over £3k and you got yourself a project.

*Gnats are quite big boys up here.

51 Thunderbird Bobber on The Bay

This has just made an appearance on the Bay, your's for £7,250.

This is the description that goes with it;

Description

Superb Triumph Bobber, this is certainly not your average thrown together budget job. This machine stands close inspection and has no excuses.
The bike was built in 2006/7 and upon completion was featured in the November 2007 issue of Back Street Heroes and also displayed on their stand at the NEC bike show. The basis of the bike is a 1951 Triumph Thunderbird, the frame is original uncut and standard rigid Triumph, the 650cc engine is fully rebuilt and balanced and has Bonneville finned rocker boxes and bespoke pushrod covers plus much more. The rest of the machine was built will a total disregard to budget and had many parts supplied by respected experts e.g. Barons Speed Shop and others. The paint and detail is stunning. Viewing is recommended as the pictures do not do it justice.
The bike is road registered and has a period number, it sounds fantastic and rides well and is a great crowd puller, silencers are not fitted but are supplied with the bike along with a speedo and front mudguard to make fully compliant with mot laws, but to avoid complication etc will be sold without MOT leaving the new owner the debate of ......................... The spec seems endless and all detailed in the magazine feature, please call for more details.

Good Start To A Project

This is sitting on the English bay at the moment, 3 days to go and a very good price, of course that may not be the case in 3 days time!

Looks to be a late frame as the top tube appears to be there, instead of the early swan neck.

Most of the big bits seem to be present and would take a lot of the heart ache out of starting from the ground up.

Check it out HERE  and if you do score it, let us know how you get on!

Triumph Cast Parts Available From England!

Came across Jon's blog yesterday and was really impressed with what he is doing down in Devon.

I served my apprenticeship in a steel foundry and have got a good idea what's involved. It's certainly not an enterprise to be taken lightly.

It's good to see someone from England giving it a go for a change, and BIW wishes him all the success he deserves.

Late unit stuff at the moment but Jon promises more in the future, finned timing covers I hope!
Nice one Jon
