Fit & Finish

Came across this lovely Rocket Goldie replica the other day when I dropped in to see Geoff. I'm not a great lover of the Cafe Racer style as such, but the workmanship on this stood out. It's the level of finish, the eye for detail that impresses with this bike. Trying to combine a nice and sometimes novel solution to a problem whilst still maintaining that restorer's sensitivity is what drives us here. So even the dreaded rivet counters, whilst not liking the style, feel obliged to say "Nice bike mate"

A bit like buses...

Went over to a small gig back in the sticks on Saturday, a good time with some good people and some nice bikes as a bonus. Amongst them was this T150 Trident motored chop, looking every inch the seventies survivor, it was actually either built or finished relatively recently. Those custom girders are a nice piece of work, and look more in proportion, and much better for it, than extended BSA girders or the like. This is the third chopped Trident I've seen this year and probably the prettiest.

Oil Filter Bracket

These are the parts that will be used to hold the oil filter housing. It's gonna be mounted behind the gearbox on the kicker side, the holes in the bottom of the dog-bones will go over the right hand side lower mudguard support and welded on. Always like to try to get as much use out of one bracket as possible 'round here, tends to keep things clean.

Front Wheel Back

Our old mate Clive has rebuilt the front wheel for the A7. The rim is the original Borrani 19 incher that was first on the bike 30 years ago and has been polished. The spokes are stainless this time 'round instead of chromed steel. What doesn't really show up in the picture is the polished brass spoke nipples although in reality they look much better. In retrospect lining the centre of the rims in black would have made them pop a lot more. The 16 inch rear wheel is now starting the same process and will hopefully be sorted in the next few weeks.

Anybody Want This

If anybody out there has a son/daughter, wife/lover that is looking to learn to ride a bike and needs something to hang Looner plates on. This cool little ride will fill the bill.
1957, 98cc, 2 speed and it runs like a top, had a spin on it 'round the Steam Fair and was blown away by the way everything works as it should. The young bloke flogging it has got a lot of the original paperwork including the receipt when bought new.
Original as you like and cheap, I reckon, at £450. E-mail me if you want a slice of history.

Got back from the coal face today to find a couple of packages waiting. The first was this bitchin' tee and stickers from Lobo down in Brazil. Thanks Man, I'm working on the DB connection bro'.

The second was from Eric, he of the amazing engines. Cheers Eric they are quality mate. I just hope some of you folks are following the link on the left and checking his work, it is a little bit special!

Wall Of Death

Had a day out over the Bedfordshire Steam and Country Fayre yesterday, and it was cheaper than free to get in! I was down to show the Commando over there and was sent a pass to get in by nine in the morning. I gotta 'fess up to not getting the Norton ready so I went on The Madras Marauder, well it looks old. No problems on arrival, got the number and everything and a commemorative whisky tumbler gratis, so cheaper than nowt.
There is something very English about steam do's and this is the only one left that allows the engines and other vehicles to roam around the site freely. At the pre show safety meeting, the guy said there is only one rule and that is "If you piss us off, then you piss off" excellent stuff, common sense is allowed to prevail.

Amongst all of the other amazing bits of old engineering and hot and steamy stuff was the Hellriders Wall of Death. Still using a couple of old Scouts, can't be many of these old side shows still up and running, damn glad they are though.

.......Basset Down Balancing, the guy phoned me this afternoon to say that it was all done and ready to pick up!!!!! We didn't get into the whys and wherefores of what was done but he did remark that it was a very nice crank. A little intriguing but more will be learnt on Friday when we go back to collect it.

Front end coming together

A couple of pics of some of the front end components the fork legs are all new other than the sliders and the seal nuts. It would be nice to have the nuts made out of brass but there's not much 50 mm dia. brass laying about at the moment. The hub has now got the bearings fitted and will be making it's way to the wheel builder sometime very soon. Can't wait to see it all built up and sitting in the forks, should look pretty darn reasonable.
